Asthma as an Equity Issue
1 in 11 American kids have asthma.
36,000 of them miss school every day because of their symptoms,
making it not only a health issue, but an academic one as well.
Asthma is the number one medical cause of missed school days in the U.S.
This is a lose lose- being absent impacts kids’ ability to read on grade level and increases their chances of dropping out of school. AND, school districts are punished when students don’t come to school, losing crucial funding dollars. It’s time for schools to play a more active role in preventing asthma related absences.
ASTHMA IS A HEALTH AND EDUCATIONAL EQUITY ISSUE.
